Basque Country (Pais Vasco) is a region in Spain. The official language is Basque (not resembling Spanish at all) and Castilian. The capital of this region is Vitoria-Gasteiz. On this page I will describe some interesting places that I was able to visit. We can visit the Basque Country with our four-legged friend. In the first tourist information, when I said that I was traveling with my dog, I immediately got the book “Euskadi con perro” (Basque Country with a dog). It contains a lot of information about places where we will be welcome with our furry dog. Our trip was at the beginning of October and when it comes to the temperature it was 25 degrees during the day, but at night it dropped to 5 degrees, so we should be provided with appropriate clothes. This article contains a description with photos of the following cities: Vitoria-Gasteiz, San Juan de Gestelugatxe, Portugalete, San Sebastian and Pamplona.
VITORIA-GASTEIZ
A very nice old town. I do not recommend driving your car to the very center, we parked near the Mendizorrotza stadium. At the intersection of Rosalia de Castro Kalea and Paseo de Cervantes, there is a large free car park. From here, we will reach the old town in about 20 minutes. If you leave your car in this place, there will be a passage in front of you, reaching it, turn right and continuing along the promenade, we will reach the old town. In the tourist information we will get maps for free. The whole old town can be walked around in about an hour or by a cable car. I recommend trying PINCHOS (the price is about two euros) it is a typical snack of this region. I was very pleasantly surprised in one of the pubs. We were with the dog and we sat outside it was a bit chilly so the waiter suggested that we go inside with our traveling companion. The time of visiting the old town on foot is about two-three hours. You can also go around the tourist train.
