Church of San Andrés

The Church of San Andrés was built in the 16th century under the direction of the architect Pedro de Alviza, who collaborated with the master stonemason Sebastián de Arnani. The construction of the church lasted more than a hundred years and was financed by the bishops, the nobility and the city of Cuenca. The church has a trapezoidal plan and cross vaults inspired by Gothic. On the facade stands out a portal in the Herrerian style, with the coats of arms of the founders and sculptures of saints. The interior of the church impresses with its rich decoration, with altars, paintings, sculptures and a clock from 1900.

The Church of San Andrés is closed for worship and serves the Board of Brotherhoods to store pasos and processional utensils. Pasos are large carved scenes from the life and passion of Christ, which are carried in Easter processions. In the Church of San Andrés you can admire pasos by such artists as Luis Marco Pérez, Vicente Marín or José de Mora. The church is open to visitors from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.
