Castle Park in Soria

The Parque del Castillo is a park located on the top of a hill, where the castle of Soria once stood. The castle was an important fortress in the Middle Ages, but it was destroyed during the war of independence in the 19th century. From its ruins, a park was created, which offers extraordinary views of the city and the Duero River. The park is a place of relaxation, recreation, and culture, as it contains various attractions and services for visitors.

The park is rectangular in shape and is surrounded by a defensive wall, on which there are four entrances. On the wall, you can see the city’s coat of arms and the inscription “Parque del Castillo”. Inside the park, you can walk along paths and alleys, surrounded by trees and flowers, such as pines, oaks, chestnuts, roses, lilies, or irises.

One of the most interesting places in the park is the Monumento al Sagrado Corazón, or Monument to the Sacred Heart, which is located at the highest point of the park. It is a large bronze sculpture, depicting Christ with open arms, blessing the city. This monument was funded by the inhabitants of Soria in 1929, as a token of gratitude for saving the city from the plague in the 17th century. This monument is visible from many points in the city and is a symbol of Soria’s faith and love.

Another interesting place in the park is the Casa del Ingeniero, or Engineer’s House, which is located at one of the entrances to the park. It is a small red brick building, which was built in 1938, as the residence of the engineer responsible for the construction of water deposits. Currently, this building serves as a summer library, where you can borrow books and magazines for free. This building is also a meeting place and literary workshops, organized by various associations and cultural groups.
