Authentic Spanish Tortilla de Patatas Recipe



Discover the classic and universal dish of Spanish cuisine – the Spanish Tortilla de Patatas. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and also works great as a snack for a party or a picnic. Here is a simple recipe that will allow you to enjoy this delicious dish in the comfort of your own home.


6 large potatoes

1 large onion

6 eggs

Olive oil




Peel and slice the potatoes thinly. Chop the onion finely. In a large skillet, heat some olive oil and add the potatoes and onion. Fry over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are soft but not brown. In the meantime, in a large bowl, whisk the eggs, add salt and pepper to taste. When the potatoes are ready, add them to the eggs and gently mix.
Pour some more oil into the skillet, pour the potato and egg mixture and fry over low heat.

When the bottom part of the tortilla is set, gently shake the skillet to avoid sticking. When the bottom part of the tortilla is cooked, cover the skillet with a plate and flip the tortilla, then gently slide it back onto the skillet to cook the other side. Fry until both sides are golden and the tortilla is cooked also in the middle. Transfer the tortilla to a plate and let it cool slightly before serving.
