Science Museum of Cuenca

The Science Museum of Cuenca is a modern and interactive museum, which is located in one of the Hanging Houses in Cuenca. The museum was opened in 1999, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Science Museum of Castilla-La Mancha, of which it is a branch. The museum aims to popularize and educate science, as well as to promote the cultural and natural heritage of the region. The museum offers various exhibitions, workshops, shows and projections, which encourage visitors to discover and experiment with science.

The Science Museum of Cuenca has four main sections, which show different aspects and fields of science. They are:

  • Astronomical Room: a room where you can see the tools and instruments used by different civilizations to observe the sky, from ancient Egypt to the present. The room includes, among others, sundials, astrolabes, globes, telescopes and compasses.
  • Planetarium: a room where you can watch audiovisual projections, which show the sky and the cosmos from different perspectives and scales. The room has a dome with a diameter of 10 meters and 60 seats.
  • Time Shuttle: a room where you can travel in time and space, learning about the history of the universe and the Earth, from the big bang to the present day. The room has a screen with an area of 100 square meters and 40 seats.
  • Treasures of the Earth: a room where you can see the wealth and diversity of resources and natural areas of Castilla-La Mancha, such as rocks, minerals, plants and animals. The room has more than 300 exhibits and 20 interactive stations.

The Science Museum of Cuenca is open to visitors, who can enter its interior and see both its architectural beauty and its educational significance. The museum is open every day, except Mondays.
