Centro de Arte y Naturaleza in Huesca

If you are a lover of contemporary art and want to understand its connection with nature, then Centro de Arte y Naturaleza, or the Center for Art and Nature, is a place you must visit. It is a modern and original museum, designed by Rafael Moneo, and opened in 2006. It is one of the most important facilities of this type in Spain, offering a unique perspective on art and nature in the context of contemporary culture. The center is located near the Congress Palace, at Avenida Doctor Artero, s/n.

It has over 4,000 square meters of space, which includes various rooms and spaces that present a permanent and temporary collection of contemporary art works, related to nature. Some of them include:

    • Room 1 is dedicated to the work of Rafael Navarro, a well-known photographer born in Huesca, who explores the relationships between body, light, and space. In this room, you can see a series of photos titled Simbiosis, which depicts the human body in harmony with nature, as well as an installation called Cámara oscura, which is an interactive optical experience.
    • Room 2 is dedicated to the work of Pedro Avellaned, a well-known painter and sculptor born in Huesca, who explores the relationships between art, science, and technology. In this room, you can see a series of paintings titled Lugares comunes, which depict natural and urban landscapes, inspired by the artist’s travels, as well as an installation called El árbol de la vida, which is a symbol of evolution and biological diversity.

  • Room 3 is dedicated to the Beulas-Sarrate collection, which is a collection of contemporary art works related to nature, donated to the city of Huesca by José Beulas and Emilio Sarrate, two well-known entrepreneurs and patrons of art. Here you can see works by artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Antoni Tàpies, Pablo Palazuelo, José Guerrero, Antonio Saura, and others.
  • Room 4 is dedicated to the Arte y Naturaleza project, which involves creating contemporary art works in a natural environment, near Huesca. In this room, you can see documentation and models of works by artists such as Fernando Casás, Per Kirkeby, Alberto Carneiro, Ulrich Rückriem, and others.
