Plaza Mayor
Plaza Mayor is the center of social and cultural life in Castellon. It is a large and beautiful square, surrounded by historic buildings and colorful houses. It is a place where you can feel the pulse of the city, admire its architecture, and taste its cuisine.
It is rectangular in shape and is paved with stones. In the middle of the square, there is a fountain with a sculpture depicting Neptune, the god of the sea. The town hall is an elegant building from the 18th century, which serves as the seat of the city authorities. The cathedral is an impressive temple from the 14th century, which combines elements of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. The bell tower is a tall and slender tower from the 15th century, which is a symbol of the city and an astronomical clock.
Plaza Mayor is also the place where the most important events and ceremonies in Castellón take place. It is here that the Magdalena festival, which is the city’s biggest celebration, begins and ends.
