Plaza de San Martín in Segovia

Plaza de San Martín is another charming square in Segovia that is worth visiting. It is located next to Plaza de Medina del Campo and is connected to it by wide stairs, on which stand two marble sphinxes from the 18th century. These Baroque sculptures, called sirens by the locals, are the work of Francisco Bellver and adorn a fountain that once stood in this place.




The square is named after the Church of San Martín, which is one of the most beautiful examples of Romanesque art in Segovia. The square also houses the Torreón de Lozoya, which is one of the oldest and most important palaces in Segovia. It was built in the 14th century by the Lozoya family, who were associated with the royal court.
